Watch: Shaheen Afridi produced a sizzling yorker to leave Aaron Beard’s stumps in a mess during Middlesex’s County Championship encounter against Sussex at Hove on Friday.
The dismissal occurred in the 103rd over of Sussex’s innings after the hosts had chosen to bat first. With Ollie Robinson still at the crease, they would have harboured hopes of crossing the 400-run mark, but Shaheen had other ideas.
The Pakistan quick speared a pin-point yorker towards the stumps and Beard didn’t have enough time to jam his bat down – the end result was the removal of two stumps out of the ground.
Shaheen’s exploits allowed Middlesex to bowl Sussex out for 392, with the left-armer accounting for Mason Crane a few overs later. He finished with figures of of 3-97, continuing a productive start to his Middlesex career; the 22-year-old has taken 14 wickets in his first five innings for the Lord’s-based county.
