Watch: Mohammad Rizwan hit his first century in the County Championship for Sussex, scoring 130 off 227 balls against Derbyshire.
Rizwan had been experiencing a below-par competition until this point, averaging 27.2 from his five innings in the competition and passing fifty just once. However, against a Derbyshire side led by former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur and containing former Test teammate Shan Masood, Rizwan put on a show to remind everyone of his class.
Arriving at the crease with the score 27-2, Rizwan, who is featuring as a specialist batter, played a fluent innings, striking 22 boundaries – all around the ground. Early in his innings, Rizwan pulled anything short of a length and drove through the covers regularly, before targeting the leg side against the left-arm seam of Luis Reece and spin of Mark Watt, arriving at his century in 172 balls.
Rizwan had a slice of luck to go to three figures, as an outside edge just evaded the reaches of slip, running away to the boundary to take Rizwan to his ton.
His Sussex side have been struggling this year in the County Championship and are currently second bottom of Division Two as they search for their first win.
