England quick Matt Potts made a stunning return to action for Durham in his first appearance in first-class cricket since he was omitted from England’s Test XI for the final two Tests of the summer. He took match figures of 13-101 in Durham’s six-wicket win over Leicestershire.
Potts has been one of the standout bowlers in the country his summer. His early season form earned him a Test debut in Lord’s, where he took 4-13 on the first day and dismissed New Zealand captain Kane Williamson in both innings.
Despite that, he was left out of the England side for the final two Tests of the summer to accommodate the returning Ollie Robinson as England overturned a 1-0 deficit to take a low-scoring series 2-1.
In his first game for Durham since his England omission, Potts, 23 served a timely reminder of his abilities, with figures of 6-52 and 7-49. The match figures of 13-101 are the best of his career. Potts now has 49 wickets at 17.26 for Durham in Division Two of the County Championship this season.
