Watch: A day after he was dismissed by Shaheen Afridi, Marnus Labuschagne reversed roles, striking with the ball to dismiss the Pakistan quick during the Middlesex v Glamorgan County Championship Division Two fixture.
On day one, Shaheen had made Labuschagne his maiden County Championship victim, dismissing him after a misjudged leave resulted in an inside edge onto his stumps. The left-arm quick followed it with Sam Northeast’s wicket off the very next ball, finishing with figures of 3-35 in Glamorgan’s total of 122.
On the second day, Shaheen was in action again, this time with the bat, adding useful runs to Middesex’s total and helping take it past 300. Giving company to the unbeaten centurion John Simpson, Shaheen scored a brisk 39-ball 29, hitting four fours and a six, before Labuschagne halted his charge.
Bowling leg-breaks instead of the seam-ups he was offering earlier this month, Labuschagne tossed one up to Shaheen in the 103rd over, with the Middlesex No.10 taking the bait and running down the track. He couldn’t quite get to the pitch though, slicing the ball in the air for Northeast to complete an easy catch at short cover. Labuschagne also picked up No.11 Thilan Walallawita, finishing with figures of 2.2-0-3-2 as Glamorgan secured a lead of 214 runs.
The contest between the two Test titans continued though: in the second innings, Shaheen got the better of Labuschangne again, dismissing him lbw for 23.
