Lancashire’s Hassan Ali sent back two Hampshire batters in the space of three deliveries to continue his excellent form in the 2022 County Championship.
The Pakistan quick had taken 14 wickets in his two games prior to the Hampshire fixture, including a six-four in his most recent match against Gloucestershire. After James Anderson ripped through the Hampshire top-order, Hassan returned to trouble the middle-order batters, accounting for Liam Dawson and Ben Brown in the 15th over of day one. Both batters registered hundreds in Hampshire’s fixture against Kent last week.
The second ball of the over cramped Dawson for room after it seamed away slightly. The England all-rounder was only able to edge it to second slip, departing for a 12-ball eight. Three balls later, Hassan struck again with Brown looking to flick the ball off his pads and only managing a leading edge to third slip, where Rob Jones latched onto a catch just inches from the ground.
The Pakistani speedster went on to take the wicket of Keith Barker later in the day. He has now picked up three or more wickets in an innings on four successive occasions for his new side.
