In 2022, Masood had a terrific summer in England for Derbyshire. He had started with 91 and 62 against Middlesex and, in his next two matches, made 239 against Sussex and 219 against Leicestershire.

There was a 119 later that season, against Worcestershire. From 13 innings, he amassed 1,074 runs at 82.61. For Derbyshire, Wayne Madsen got more runs (1,274) but at a lower average (60.61) that summer.

Of batters with more runs than Masood, only Cheteshwar Pujara (1,094 at 109.40 for Sussex) had a better average in the 2022 County Championship Division Two.

Yorkshire signed him up for the 2023 season. He had a stop-start beginning to his new stint (44 and 10 against Durham, 67 and 95 not out against Derbyshire, 0 and 32 against Gloucestershire, 8 and 86 against Derbyshire).

The elusive hundred finally came when Yorkshire toured Cardiff for their away match against Glamorgan. Masood won the toss and opted to bat, and came in at No.3 after Adam Lyth (49) and Finlay Bean (93) put on 98 for the opening stand.

There was a momentary distraction when Yorkshire lost two wickets for 15 runs in 20 balls to become 230-3, but Masood and George Hill (51 not out) added 90 in quick time.

The hundred, Masood’s 22nd in first-class cricket, came in the 68th over, with a drive down the ground off Kiran Carlson. In all, he faced 153 balls for his unbeaten 113, and hit 12 boundaries.
