Mohammad Abbas was the star performer with the ball on the opening day of the 2023 County Championship, claiming figures of 6-46 against newly-promoted Nottinghamshire.
Abbas is currently out of the frame when it comes to Pakistan Test selection, having last played for his country back in August 2021.
Now 33, Abbas continues to thrive in the County Championship despite his current international status. Since joining Hampshire ahead of the 2021 summer, the Pakistani seamer has taken 91 first-class wickets at an average of just 16.83.
Abbas was right on the money to start off the 2023 summer, taking six wickets as Nottinghamshire were bowled out for 185 at the Ageas Bowl. Abbas took the first three Nottinghamshire wickets to fall, a haul that included England opener Ben Duckett and Haseeb Hameed. Four of his first five wickets were caught behind the wicket, while he trapped Steven Mullaney lbw before dismissing Luke Fletcher who was caught at mid-wicket.
