Hampshire were put into bat on Day one by Nottinghamshire and got off to a horrible start with both their openers getting out for ducks. Nick Gubbins and James Fuller scored 40s to take the visitors past 150 as they ended their first innings at 166.
They then came out all guns blazing with the ball, reducing the hosts to 84-5 and then bundling them out for just 100 courtesy of a three-wicket burst by Abbas to clean up the tail.
He first bowled James on the last ball of the 34th over, going through his bat and pad to uproot his off stump, and followed it up by bowling Harrison on the last ball of the 36th over with an inswinger that deflected off the batter’s pads and crashed into his middle and off stumps, uprooting them both.

To cap it off, Abbas then dismissed No.11 Toby Pettman caught behind off his very next over to close off the Nottinghamshire innings for 100, handing the visitors a crucial 61-run lead in a low-scoring game.
Abbas finished with figures of 14.5-3-34-3, taking his wickets tally in the 2023 County Championship season to 36 from 10 games at an average of 20.27.
Hampshire have put on a much better batting display in the second innings, with Ian Holland and Liam Dawson scoring fifties to take them close to 200 and the lead past 250 for the loss of four wickets at the time of writing.
