Leicestershire resumed on day two on 68-2 having bowled Sussex out for 262 on day one. Unadkat joined the side for their final three games of the season, having already featured in one during Sussex’s loss to Durham last week.
He made a crucial breakthrough early in the day at Hove. He bowled a beauty from round the wicket that which snuck in between the right-handed Ackermann’s bat and pad, taking out his off stump. The stump gave a satisfying cartwheel as it was ripped out of the ground, and Ackermann walked off without bothering to turn around.
Unadkat struck again in his next over, snaking a ball past the left-handed Umar Amin’s outside edge and finding the finest of scratches, Ollie Carter safely pouching the catch behind the stumps.
That breakthrough left Leicestershire teetering at 75-4, and started a disastrous collapse which led to them being bowled out for 108. Rehan Ahmed was out for a duck the over after Amin departed; Ben Cox, the next wicket to fall, also failed to score.
Fittingly, as the starter of the morning’s chaos, Unadkat was also the one to finish it. He dismissed Matt Salisbury for another duck as the final wicket of the innings and finished with figures of 3-23 off 12.4 overs.
