Watch: Tom Price had a dream day out against Worcestershire, scoring a maiden first class hundred before taking his second Championship hat-trick.
Gloucestershire had collapsed to 45-7 when Price came in at No.9, having been 0-2 in the second over of the match at New Road. The 23-year-old built a 44-run partnership with Zafar Gohar before taking Gloucestershire past 150 with Marchant de Lange. He reached his century off just 93 balls, hitting four sixes and 12 fours in his innings saving knock.
By the time he was dismissed, he had taken Gloucestershire to 231 all-out.
When Worcestershire came out to bat, openers Ed Pollock and Jake Libby started strongly with a fifty run opening partnership before Libby was dismissed for 27.
In the following over, Price was back in the action. He nicked off Azhar Ali for a duck before dismissing Jack Haynes in a near identical dismissal with his next delivery. On a hat-trick, Price was now bowling to Brett D’Oliveira. Once again, he bowled just wide of off stump, D’Oliveira went to defend on his front foot but got a faint edge through to James Bracey behind the stumps.
All three victims of Price’s three ball blitz were dismissed for ducks, leaving Worcestershire 59-4.
Price also took a hat-trick in the County Championship last year against Kent, where he dismissed Jordan Cox, George Linde and Grant Stewart.
Worcestershire finished the day on 118-7, still trailing by 113. Price also dismissed Ed Pollock, again caught by Bracey, to finish the day with figures of 4-38. Price averages less than 22 with the ball in first-class cricket.
