Watch: Haseeb Hameed had his stumps splattered by a brutal inswinger from Kent’s Michael Hogan while opening the batting in the County Championship.
Nottinghamshire are up against it in their ongoing Division One fixture, bowled out for 265 in response to Kent’s 446 and being asked to follow on. Hameed’s dismissal set them back further, but there was little he could do against the delivery he was faced with.
Michael Hogan ran in to bowl with Hameed on seven, with the ball way outside off-stump as he released. However, it instantly began to duck inwards, to such an extent that it missed Hameed’s off-stump all together, sending middle and leg flying instead. Hameed trudged off as the 42-year-old seamer celebrated.
Hameed has endured a lean year after being one of the most prolific batters in the County Championship on 2022. He currently has a batting average just under 30, with no hundreds from 23 innings thus far.
Kent began the game in the relegation zone with Notts sitting two places (but 34 points) above them in the table. A win at Canterbury – which at the time of writing looks likely – should take them above Middlesex and out of the drop zone, assuming Middlesex don’t win away to Lancashire.
