Watch: Shadab Khan took a stunning full-stretched diving catch off his own bowling to help his team Hobart Hurricanes register a come-from-behind eight-run win over Perth Scorchers in the 2022-23 BBL.
With 18 runs to get in the last 12 balls and four wickets in hand, Perth Scorchers were well on track to win the second game in the edition before a screamer from Shadab turned things around. Coming on to bowl the penultimate over of the innings, the Pakistan spinner sent down a slower delivery to Aaron Hardie, who was batting on 12 off 11 deliveries.
The fuller-length ball was pitched on the off stump and Hardie looked to play it with soft hands. However, he mistimed it completely, with the leading edge going wide of the bowler. However, the batter could have survived if not for a stunning catch by Shadab, who kept his eye on the ball and moved a few steps to his right before stretching full-tilt to leave the commentators in awe. “That’s an absolute screamer, almost like a goalie!”
Perth Scorchers could manage only seven more runs thereafter and lost the clash by eight runs. Shadab ended with figures of 1-22 to pick up his second wicket in the competition in as many games.
