Melbourne were reduced to 30-2 in 4.2 overs when skipper Maxwell walked out to bat. He raced away to 21 in 14 balls but could only make nine runs in the next 12 balls before a 129.6 kph yorker from Zaman Khan ended his stay at the crease. The ball was directed at the base of the off stump and Maxwell’s attempt to swing the bat across the line was unsuccessful as he missed completely.

The ball went on to dismantle the timber behind as Zaman picked up his first wicket of the match. The Pakistan quick ended with 3-24 in his four overs, also dismissing Hilton Cartwright and Jonathan Merlo to win the Player of the Match award.

Sydney went on to win the game, chasing down the target of 173 with five wickets.
