The incident happened during the third over of the Sixer’s run-chase when James Vince smashed a delivery straight to Imad Wasim, who deflected it to the stumps at the non-strikers’ end in an attempt to run out Philippe. The on-field umpire referred it upstairs and replay showed that the batter was back in the crease before the ball had hit the stumps.
However, much to everyone’s surprise, the giant screen showed that Phillipe was out, leading to confusion. The on-field umpire asked everyone to wait for the correct decision as stranded Philippe chuckled. Finally, the batter was adjudged not-out and play resumed.
Philippe couldn’t add much to his tally as he was cleaned up by Scott Boland for nine. Vince’s 79 off 57, including 12 fours sealed a seven-wicket win for the visitors with 11 balls to spare. The Sixers are currently second on the points table with four wins from eight games and trail the table-topper Brisbane Heat, who have won five out of seven matches
