The England all-rounder finished with figures of 3.3-0-23-4, claiming the last three Challengers wickets in their 73-run win, after starring with the bat in a win that pushed them to the second spot on the points table.
Moeen Ali, who, in 2017 became the first England spinner in 79 years to complete a Test hat-trick, added to his T20 resume by picking up Shohidul Islam, Al-Amin Hossain and Bilal Khan, the last one ending Challengers’ chase of 240.
He had Shohidul stumped, sliding a delivery way outside off: the batter jumped out of his crease trying to chase the ball, and ended up having his stumps taken out. Al-Amin then skied one to Will Jacks at long on, while Bilal was bowled, stepping out of his crease in an attempt to slog, the ball hitting his pads on his way to the stumps.
Earlier, Moeen starred with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 24-ball 53 to give company to fellow England player Jacks, who hit a 53-ball 100 (and later took five catches). Moeen hit five sixes and two fours, finishing with a strike rate of 220.83, helped along by a couple of dropped catches.
Their combined effort propelled the Victorians to 239-3, the joint-highest total in Bangladesh Premier League history, matching Rangpur Riders’ 239-4 against the same opposition in 2019.
The season began with a hat-trick too, albeit against the Victorians, when Duronto Dhaka’s Shoriful Islam claimed one in the opening match of BPL 2024.
