Chris Jordan came in at No.8 for Hobart Hurricanes, after Nikhil Chaudhary was out off the last ball of the 15th over of the innings. However, he had to wait for the strike, with Mitchell Owen dismissed in the following over to leave Hobart 106-7 in the 16th over with only the tail to come. When he did get the strike, he was served a wide for his first ball from Ashton Agar before playing out the final ball of the over for a dot.
He began his onslaught in the next over. Back on strike for the third ball, he launched a full ball outside off stump from Jason Behrendorff over long on. His bottom hand came off the bat early as he swung his bat through, releasing the handle as he connected with the ball. Despite this, the ball flew several rows back into the crowd for the first six of the Hobart innings.
That broke the shackles for Jordan, and he went on to hit three fours off his next three balls, taking Behrendorff’s over for 19. After a dot and a two from the first four balls of Andrew Tye’s next over, he launched into him as well, hitting consecutive boundaries including another six.
Tye’s most brutal treatment was saved for the final over, however, when Jordan hit three sixes from his first four balls. The second of these took Jordan to a 17-ball fifty. That puts Jordan joint fourth on the list of fastest BBL fifties, with Nicholas Pooran and Ben Cutting having also reached the milestone off 17 balls.
Jordan was finally out off the final ball of the innings, caught in the deep looking for another six.
