The much-awaited 13th edition of Australia’s premier franchise T20 competition, the Big Bash League, will be played between December 7, 2023 and January 24, 2024. Last year’s runners-up, Brisbane Heat, will play the curtain-raiser against Melbourne Stars at the Gabba, while defending champions and record five-time title-holders Perth Scorchers will start their campaign against Melbourne Renegades on December 10 at GMHBA stadium.
The BBL 2023/24 has been curtailed to 10 games per side after Cricket Australia struck a deal with broadcasters to shorten the competition. Each side will face four opponents once and the remaining three twice.
After a 40 league matches, the top four sides will qualify for the playoffs. There will be four playoff games, a reduction from five, with the top two sides given two chances to make it to the final, and the third and fourth teams needing two consecutive wins to make it to the final.
The top two teams on the points table will lock horns against each other in the Qualifier on January 19 to enter the final, while the Knockout on January 20 will witness a battle between the third and the fourth-ranked teams. The loser of the Qualifier will pit against the winner of the Knockout in the Challenger on January 22 to secure the other berth in the summit clash.
