Watch: Andre Russell had an over to remember while playing a match-winning innings in Melbourne Stars victory over Sydney Thunder in the BBL..

The West Indies all-rounder was the Player of the Match in the BBL encounter between his team Melbourne Stars, and Sydney Thunder. He smashed a 21-ball 42 to get his side over the line. However, the 15th over of the Stars innings delivered by Tanveer Sangha became a memorable one in the game, both for Russell’s hits and his misses.

He tried to take on the leg-spinner off the third ball of the over, clearing his front leg but missing the ball completely. The ball however went on to hit him in his groin. The batter was on the ground, much to the amusement of the commentators and the broadcasters.

Russell was, however, up and running again very soon. Two balls later, he deposited the leg-spinner over wide long-on for a massive 102-metre six. That shot is available seven minutes into the below highlights package.

There was to be even more drama in the over. Russell tried to send the ball into the orbit once more off the final delivery, but only managed an inside edge. The ball then rolled back and hit his stumps with some force. The bails however refused to be dislodged as the all-rounder survived this close call.

By then he had all but sealed the game in favour of his side.
