A bizarre incident occurred Adelaide Strikers’ clash with Sydney Thunder on Sunday, with batsman Jake Weatherald falling short at both ends.
The moment came in the 10th over of the first innings, when the Strikers’ Phil Salt, Weatherald’s batting partner, smashed one down the ground. Chris Green, the bowler, got his fingertips on the ball, with the ball crashing into the stumps as Weatherald’s bat hung in the air at the non-striker’s end.
The fielding side appealed, and Salt meanwhile set-off for a non-existent single, only for a mix-up to have Weatherald falling short at the keeper’s end, too. Replays showed that it was the first crash of the stumps that accounted for the batsman.
