Surprise debutant Josh Tongue will be under the microscope as he makes his international bow for England this weekend, as will be the highly scrutinised Zak Crawley and the returning Jonny Bairstow. England named their starting XI two days ahead of the game, with James Anderson and Ollie Robinson missing out nursing injuries.

It will be Ireland’s fourth Test in less than two months after their tours to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Andy Balbirnie recently admitted that Ireland’s upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Italy, despite being played in Scotland in front of a handful of people, is far more critical than the one-off Test match.
