Rehan was the star of England’s young bowling attack against Ireland, with all of their World Cup squad rested from the series before heading out to the tournament. Having bowled steadily in his first three overs, he struck off the second ball of his fourth, taking the important wicket of Harry Tector thanks in no small part to a brilliant diving catch from Will Jacks.

However, his next wicket was all his own work. He sent the ball down from around the wicket to the left-handed McBrine, landing the ball exactly on off stump. It turned away from the batter just enough to sneak past his outside edge, McBrine misreading the googly and playing down the wrong line, and crashed into the wicket.

Rehan celebrated in typically laid back style, jogging down the wickets to acknowledge his teammates’ congratulations. He went on to get Mark Adair in his next over, the googly once again confusing the batter and claiming him lbw. George Dockrell was his final victim, another googly drawing a false shot.

Rehan finished with figures of 4-54 off his ten overs and was close to picking up a five-for, Craig Young surviving an lbw shout of the last ball of Rehan’s spell.
