Zak Crawley will captain in England in their three-match ODI series against Ireland this month, with Ben Duckett named as vice-captain and three uncapped players in their 13-man squad.
Crawley has played three ODIs in his career so far, all of which came in the Covid-19 affected series against Pakistan in 2021. It will be the first time he has captained England in any format.
England squad vs Ireland: Zak Crawley (c), Ben Duckett (vc), Rehan Ahmed, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Hain, Will Jacks, Craig Overton, Matthew Potts, Phil Salt, George Scrimshaw, Jamie Smith, Luke Wood.
Duckett made his ODI debut in 2016, when he scored two fifties in a three-match series against Bangladesh. After a seven-year absence from the format, he returned to the side in South Africa earlier this year, playing three matches with a top score of 20.
Most of England’s regular ODI names are absent from the squad, with the series to be played in close proximity to the World Cup. The series finishes in Bristol on September 26, while England will play their opening match of the World Cup nine days later against New Zealand on October 5.
Three players uncapped at senior international level – Sam Hain, Jamie Smith and George Scrimshaw – have also been included in the squad.
