The 23-year-old, whose 126* has comprised 15 fours and five sixes, found an able ally in Choudhary, who has played 47 deliveries for his unbeaten nine in the 109*-run stand. With ROI leading by 265 and two days remaining in the fixture, it will be crucial to extend the lead past the 300-run mark.
Earlier in the fixture, ROI got themselves to 237, after which Paras Dogra composed 65 and Lone Nasir’s heroics at No.10 helped Jammu & Kashmir attain a 41-run lead.
Smaran is considered one of the youngsters to watch out for, currently averaging 75.41 across 20 first-class matches with seven hundreds and five fifties. He was also the highest run-scorer in the previous Ranji Trophy season, scoring 950 runs in nine matches at 86.36, including four hundreds and three fifties.
