Mumbai have built on a healthy lead in the Irani Cup - here are the latest updates from day four.

Mumbai have taken a 274-run lead against Rest of India in the one-off final on Friday (October 4) at the end of day four. The day began with RoI trailing by 248 runs, after Mumbai had been dismissed for 537 in their first innings, led by a brilliant double ton from Sarfaraz Khan.

RoI’s Abhimanyu Easwaran, who was unbeaten on an overnight score of 151*, added 40 more runs, narrowly missing out on his fourth first-class double ton after managing a top edge off Shams Mulani. Overall, Easwaran averages 49.38 after 167 innings, with 29 fifties and 26 hundreds.

RoI, who resumed at 289-4, frustrated the Mumbai bowlers in the first session, taking the score to 393 before Dhruv Jurel departed for 93. The middle order could not put up a fight as the remaining six wickets fell for just 23 runs. From 393-4, the Rest of India collapsed to 416 all out, giving Mumbai a handy lead of 121 runs.

Mulani and Tanush Kotian were the wreckers in chief with the ball, picking up three wickets apiece.

Mumbai’s batting was led by Prithvi Shaw, who raced away to his fifty in just 37 deliveries. The opener, who last played a Test match for India in 2020, hit eight fours and a six in his knock of 76 (105 deliveries) before Saransh Jain bowled him.

Ajinkya Rahane (9 in 27) and Shreyas Iyer (8 in 12) were unable to contribute as Mumbai were reduced to 115-4, which soon became 125-6. Sarfaraz Khan and Kotian ensured Mumbai went till the end of day’s play without losing any further wickets.
