14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke several records during a whirlwind century against Gujarat Titans in the 2025 IPL today (April 28).

Suryavanshi, who became the youngest debutant in the IPL at the age of 14 years and 23 days, was bought for INR 1.10 crore in the IPL auction last November. Last year, he had become the fourth-youngest Indian to play a first-class match at the age of just 12 years and 284 days, when he was handed a debut for Bihar.

The left-hander made his debut in the league against Lucknow Super Giants, where he impressed with a first-ball six, during his 20-ball 34. In the next match, he made 16 in 12 balls but unleashed his full fury against the Gujarat Titans at Jaipur on Monday with a blistering ton. It was his first fifty-plus score in T20 cricket, with his previous high being 34. Before the game, he had played three T20s, making 63 runs at an average of 21.

Second-fastest hundred in IPL history

Suryavanshi, who was batting on nine off his first seven balls, moved to 35 in 13 after scoring 28 runs off Ishant Sharma’s second over. He brought up his maiden IPL fifty in 17 balls, becoming the fifth-fastest to the feat.

There was more carnage to follow as he needed only 18 more balls to move to a hundred, to notch up the second-fastest ton in the IPL: only Chris Gayle has reached three figures quicker - in 30 balls. He was eventually dismissed for 101 in 38 balls, with his innings containing 11 sixes and seven fours.

Youngest T20 centurion ever

He has also become the youngest ever with a men’s T20 hundred, with the previous record belonging to Maharashtra’s Vijay Zol, who had scored a hundred at the age of 18 years and 118 days.

Most sixes by an Indian in an IPL innings

Suryavanshi smashed 11 sixes in his innings, the fourth-most in any IPL innings. The list is led by Chris Gayle, who had smashed 17 against Pune Warriors India back in 2013.

Overall, his 11 sixes in the innings was also the joint-most hit by an Indian in an IPL knock. Murali Vijay had also smashed 11 against the Rajasthan Royals in 2010.

His 11 maximums are also the joint-most in a run-chase in the IPL, alongside Sanath Jayasuriya, who had hit 11 sixes for Mumbai Indians against CSK in 2008.

He is also the only batter under the age of 18 to smash 10 or more sixes in a men's T20 innings.

Third-quickest 100-plus knock in the IPL

Suryavanshi's innings came at a strike rate of 265.78, which is the third-quickest century in the history of IPL. Yusuf Pathan's 37-ball hundred in 2010 was scored at a strike rate of 270.07, while David Miller struck at 265.78 during his 38-ball 101* back in 2013.

Suryavanshi-Jaiswal notch up highest partnership for RR

Chasing 210 for a win, RR were led by a blistering opening stand between Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The India international was unbeaten on 70 off 40, striking at 175, but was overshadowed by Suryavanshi, with whom he shared a 166-run stand. It was the tenth-highest opening stand in the IPL, but, more importantly, the highest for any wicket for Rajasthan in history. The two made 166 in just 11.5 overs, at a run rate of 14.02. Rajasthan hauled the target in 15,5 overs, the quickest 200-plus chase in the league.

Least innings taken to score an IPL hundred for an Indian

Suryavanshi, playing just his third IPL game, has now taken the fewest innings for a ton in the competition. Manish Pandey, Paul Valthathy and Priyansh Arya all had hundreds in their fourth innings.
