England quick Jofra Archer suffered a brutal return to IPL cricket, recording the worst figures in tournament history in the SRH vs RR IPL 2025 match in Hyderabad.
RR skipper Riyan Parag, standing in for Sanju Samson, elected to field first after winning the toss. SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head got off to their now-customary flying start, making it to an incredible 45-0 in three overs. Abhishek departed in the following over, cutting Maheesh Theekshana straight to point.
In the fifth over, Archer came into the attack for the first time. He was part of the England team that played a five-match T20I series against India in February, but has not played in the IPL since May 2023, when he represented Mumbai Indians.

Jofra Archer concedes 76 runs in first IPL 2025 outing
Off his first ball, Head backed away and Archer followed, only for the batter to swivel and get it behind square leg for four. The second was pitched up on middle stump – and Head obliged with a massive strike over the leg-side, his six measuring 105 metres.
There was some respite as a slower ball then resulted in a dot, but Head then slashed the following delivery through the off side for four. After a bouncer was called wide, the Australian opener then went down the ground twice in a row for two more fours, to take 23 off the over. By the end of the Powerplay, SRH had put up 94-1.
Archer's nightmare wasn't over as Ishan Kishan then smashed Archer for three sixes in the 13th over of the innings, taking 22 as his figures read 0-57 after three overs. Archer's final over started with a beamer that ran away for four byes, before it went for 19 runs, taking his figures to 0-76, the worst in IPL history.
