Watch: Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi gave an animated send-off to Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya after dismissing him during Tuesday’s (April 1) IPL 2025 match.
With PBKS at 20-0 chasing 172, LSG captain Rishabh Pant introduced leg-spinner Rathi into the attack. The first ball – a half-tracker – was smashed by Arya to deep mid-wicket. After the second and third balls yielded a single, Arya again came back on strike. Having defended the fourth ball on the front foot, Arya tried to drag a shorter one spinning away from his body to the leg side and miscued it, skying it upwards. Shardul Thakur, running in from mid on, took the catch to dismiss him for a nine-ball eight.
After securing LSG's first breakthrough, Rathi gave the batter a notebook-signing send-off - a celebration popularised by West Indies fast bowler Kesrick Williams. Arya didn’t react, walking head-down to the pavilion. Notably, Digvesh and Arya were teammates for South Delhi Superstarz in the 2024 Delhi Premier League.
Despite losing the wicket, PBKS continued to play aggressively as Prabhsimran Singh smashed 69 off 34 balls before falling in the 11th over with his team at 110-2.
