Watch: Jofra Archer tested teenage IPL signing Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Rajasthan Royals nets ahead of their clash this weekend against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Archer, who has taken five wickets in his last three IPL matches following a tricky start, held nothing back as he blitzed the young star with a short-pitched attack. Suryavanshi, who celebrated his 14th birthday two weeks ago, looked composed under the barrage from one of the fastest bowlers in the world, ducking, weaving and taking on the length as Archer threw everything at him.
At one point in the session, after Suryavanshi had elegantly carved a fuller ball from Archer back over his head, Archer laughed in disbelief at the shot.
Suryavanshi hasn't yet broken into the Rajasthan first XI in his first season with the side after he was picked up in the auction for 1.1 crore. Rajasthan have a star-studded batting lineup, with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Nitish Rana and Shimron Hetmyer all in their favoured top six. However, they currently sit in seventh place on the table having lost their first two matches.
The teenage sensation first came to international attention when he made his Ranji Trophy debut last year at the age of 12, opening the batting for Bihar. He was part of India U19s squad for their series against Australia late last year, in which he scored a 58-ball century in an unofficial Test match.
He was a highly prized young talent in the mega-auction, with Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan pursuing the teenager, with the latter eventually winning out. His contract made him the youngest player ever bought in an IPL auction.
