Losing Hardik Pandya too close to the 2024 IPL, GT could not restore the lost balance, and failed to reach the final for the first time. At the auction, they seem to have made the necessary amends. They have quality all-rounders in Sundar and Rashid and, if they bowl, two men who can chip in with the ball, in Phillips and Tewatia. However, it will be interesting to see which of Gill and Buttler drops anchor and bats deep into the innings.
The pace attack – Rabada (formerly Punjab), Siraj, and an Impact Player (Prasidh Krishna or Ishant Sharma) – have a formidable look to it. In Rashid and Sai Kishore, the middle overs are taken care of as well.
Punjab have managed to reunite Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting, the combination that gave Delhi Capitals their first sustained run, in the late 2010s. In Maxwell – the hero of their only great season, in 2014 – Inglis, and Stoinis, they have three explosive batters who also take care of the keeper and perhaps five or six overs. Add Jansen to the mix, and they have about nine batters and seven bowlers.
Given that their specialists include the likes of Arshdeep and Chahal (Vijaykumar Vyshak can be the Impact Player), they have the potential to go all the way this time.

There is little to choose from these evenly matched sides. Home advantage will probably give Gujarat a slight edge.
