IPL 2025, DC vs LSG: Team news
DC have a new captain in Axar, but their core structure and strategy remain the same: overseas power hitters and Indian bowlers. In Starc, however, they have a world-class pace spearhead this time. A couple of quick blows may slow LSG down, denying them the usual Kuldeep-Axar middle-overs strangle.

LSG built a strong core of domestic fast bowlers. This seemed an impressive strategy – until they had a quadruple blow even before the season went underway. Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep are all nursing injuries. LSG replaced Mohsin (ruled out of the season) with Thakur, but they have little option but to wait for the others to recover at this point.

This will obviously force them to switch their focus to power hitting, an area where they can match any side in the tournament. Some of their batters – Badoni, Samad – can bowl, which will help their cause. Their best bet is to put up a colossal target and back their depleted bowling attack to defend it; or to chase down any target. Their batters, who will be bolstered by an Impact Player (very likely to be Yuvraj Chaudhary) are capable of both.
There will be subplots around Rahul and Pant, who will take field against teams they had led in the previous year. While Pant’s departure was just a big-ticket transfer, Rahul’s last days at the LSG were not without controversy. Unlike Pant, Rahul is not leading the team either. There will not be as much focus on Marsh, who has also taken the Pant route from DC to LSG.
