A total of 10 England players are set to feature in IPL 2025, including former England white-ball captain Jos Buttler and star fast bowler Jofra Archer, the most expensive English buys at the mega-auction.
Two Englishmen are set for their IPL debuts with all-rounders Jacob Bethell and Jamie Overton being bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings respectively.
Harry Brook and Brydon Carse were also going to be part of the 2025 season, but they have both pulled out. Carse picked up a toe injury during the Champions Trophy, while Brook opted out to manage his workload. He will reportedly face a two-year ban from the IPL for his late-notice withdrawal.
Buttler, after spending seven years with the Rajasthan Royals, will move south to the 2022 champions Gujarat Titans where he is likely to open the batting with Shubman Gill, GT captain and one of India’s brightest batting talents. Archer will be back at Rajasthan Royals after a last-minute decision to opt into the auction to avoid a ban similar to that which Brook is now facing.
Sam Curran will also be heading back to a familiar home with Chennai Super Kings, though at a significantly reduced salary, down to INR 2.4 crore, having been on INR 18.25 crore at Punjab Kings before being released.
Two-time IPL champion Moeen Ali has moved from CSK to reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders, Phil Salt and Liam Livingstone will team up with Bethell at RCB and Surrey and England teammates Will Jacks and Reece Topley will represent five-time champions Mumbai Indians.
