Royal Challengers Bengaluru are set to announce their new captain for the 2025 edition of the IPL. Follow all the live updates here.
Since securing the signature of opening batter Faf du Plessis in the mega auction ahead of IPL 2022, RCB have been led by the former Proteas skipper. In three seasons, du Plessis captained the franchise in 42 matches – finishing with a win-loss ratio of exactly 1.0 (21 wins, 21 losses).
But he was not retained by the franchise, and at the auction held last November, RCB did not even put in a bid for their skipper, who instead went to Delhi Capitals at his base price of INR 2 crore – suggesting they had already decided to appoint a new captain from the 2025 season onwards.
Confirmation on this will finally come on February 13, on the eve of the Women's Premier League, where RCB are the defending champions. Follow all the live updates here.

Will RCB appoint a foreign captain?
It looks unlikely.
Doing so would lock one of the four foreigners they are allowed in the playing XI, and very few of RCB's overseas players have significant captaincy experience at the highest level.

Could a new player be appointed captain?
Among the new players RCB secured in the auction, Krunal Pandya has a slim chance of being appointed skipper, having captained Lucknow Super Giants in the past.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar could be a dark horse in the race. He has captained Sunrisers Hyderabad before, and led Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this season.

The other player rumoured to be in the mix is star batter Rajat Patidar.
