Punjab Kings begin their IPL 2025 season against 2022 champions Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on March 25 – here’s how the squad shapes up this year.
PBKS extended their disappointing run of not qualifying for the play-offs to 10 years last season as they finished ninth, only ahead of five-time champions Mumbai Indians. As is customary with the franchise, they decided to undergo another overhaul of their squad and coaching staff for the mega auction, with former Australia captain Ricky Ponting appointed head coach.
PBKS Squad 2025: Who’s out?
Punjab went into the auction with the biggest budget of 110.5 crore after only retaining two uncapped players: Shashank Singh (5.5 crore) and Prabhsimran Singh (4 crore). During the auction, PBKS only bought back two players that were a part of the squad last season.
Players released by PBKS ahead of IPL 2025: Arshdeep Singh, Ashutosh Sharma, Atharva Taide, Chris Woakes*, Harpreet Brar, Harpreet Bhatia, Harshal Patel, Jitesh Sharma, Jonny Bairstow*, Kagiso Rabada*, Liam Livingstone*, Nathan Ellis*, Prince Choudhary, Rahul Chahar, Rilee Rossouw*, Rishi Dhawan, Sam Curran*, Shikhar Dhawan, Shivam Singh, Sikandar Raza*, Tanay Thyagarajan, Vidwath Kaverappa, Vishwanath Pratap Singh.

PBKS Squad 2025: Who’s in?
PBKS only bought back Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar from last year’s squad, both of whom have been integral parts of their bowling lineup over the past few years. They also added two more high value purchases in Yuzvendra Chahal – who Arshdeep recently passed to become India’s leading T20I wicket-taker – and IPL 2024 winning captain Shreyas Iyer, who has worked with Ponting previously at Delhi Capitals. In terms of the overseas players that were bought at the auction, Ponting’s influence was clear to see with five of the eight being Australian.
