      Team news and updates

MI might have been got off to an ordinary start, but Bumrah’s return will boost them significantly – and they have never been great starters anyway. Mumbai Indians have so far replaced Bumrah with Satyanarayana Raju and Ashwani Kumar. Both have impressed, and will undoubtedly be looking for the next opportunity, as will Raj Angad Bawa.

Rohit, too, has batted in the MI nets after missing the fourth. Both are set to play, and MI are likely to use the Impact Player accordingly. Runs have eluded Rohit so far this season, but that is as much a product of high-risk batting as anything else. Tilak’s struggles against the Lucknow Super Giants will not be a matter of concern either.

The defeat against the Gujarat Titans provided a glimpse of RCB’s inability to post a big score after a top-order collapse. Keen on preserving wickets, they delayed the final onslaught too long, and could only reach 169-8. That is something they may want to address in what has been an otherwise impressive campaign.

      Wankhede pitch and weather report

Since the start of the 2023 season, the IPL run rate at Wankhede has been 9.75 (an average score of 195), the second-highest of all venues with a five-match cut-off. Pacers go for 10.24 an over here (second-most), but the spin economy of 8.35 here is the third-best with a 10-match cut-off (after Lucknow and Chepauk). MI hold an edge there.

Mumbai Aprils are harsh. AccuWeather warns of “danger of dehydration and heat stroke if outside for extended periods of time.” The temperature will rise to 38°C today, will be about 34°C around the toss, and will drop to only about 31°C by closing time. There is no chance of rain.
