Five-time champions Mumbai Indians will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign with a blockbuster clash against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai. Here’s how MI’s squad looks like this season compared to last season.

Mumbai Indians extended history by becoming then-record five-time Indian Premier League champions in 2020. While it seemed like MI would build a dynasty that would rule for years to come following that campaign, that promise has been far from coming to fruition in recent years.

They have made the playoffs in only one of the last four seasons and finished at the bottom of the table twice in IPL 2022 and last season. MI, who won all of their IPL trophies under Rohit Sharma, decided to appoint Hardik Pandya in IPL 2024 and struggled to get positive results.

MI Squad 2025: Who’s out?

Mumbai Indians decided to retain their five-man core of Indian players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Jasprit Bumrah was the highest-paid retention followed by Suryakumar Yadav. Current and former captains Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma were also retained along with emerging star all-rounder Tilak Varma.

MI opted not to retain wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan, who’s spent six seasons with the franchise. From the list of released players, however, they decided to use the RTM option on Naman Dhir in the mega auction and also got back Arjun Tendulkar.

Players released by MI ahead of IPL 2025: Dewald Brevis, Ishan Kishan, Harvik Desai, Tim David, Vishnu Vinod, Arjun Tendulkar, Mohammad Nabi, Romario Shepherd, Shams Mulani, Nehal Wadhera, Gerald Coetzee, Anshul Kamboj, Naman Dhir, Shivalik Sharma, Kwena Maphaka, Kumar Kartikeya Singh, Piyush Chawla, Akash Madhwal, Luke Wood, Dilshan Madushanka, Shreyas Gopal, Nuwan Thushara.

MI Squad 2025: Who’s in?

Mumbai Indians spent heavily on their pace unit at the IPL 2025 mega auction. They signed former player Trent Boult for 12.5 crore and also got Deepak Chahar for 9.25 crore to support Bumrah. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner proved to be an astute signing for just 2 crore while MI also bought exciting Afghanistan spinner Allah Ghazanfar for 4.80 crore (although he has since been ruled out with injury). They also added uncapped players Robin Minz, Bevon Jacobs, and Raj Bawa to the side.

Players signed by MI ahead of IPL 2025: Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Naman Dhir, Will Jacks, Allah Ghazanfar, Mitchell Santner, Ryan Rickelton, Reece Topley, Lizaad Williams, Robin Minz, Karn Sharma, Vignesh Puthur, Bevon Jacobs, Satyanarayana Raju, Raj Bawa, Ashwani Kumar, Arjun Tendulkar, Krishnan Shrijith.
