Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the first match of IPL 2025 today (March 22). The city, however, has been experiencing rainfall for the last few days.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange warning predicting thunderstorms with rain in Kolkata on Saturday (March 22) and Sunday (March 23). The IMD predicts an 87 per cent chance of rain today.

BBC Weather's hourly forecast predicts a 23 per cent chance of rainfall at 7:30 pm local time, the scheduled start time for the KKR vs RCB IPL 2025 match. Fortunately, it drops to 13 and then eight per cent by 9:30 pm before reaching a peak of 24 per cent by 12:30 am, by when the match should be over.
AccuWeather predicts a sevent per cent chance of rain at night and a two per cent chance of thunderstorms.
The forecasts are not terrible, and Eden Gardens' high-quality drainage system should ensure that unless there's incessant rain throughout playing hours, the match should go on.
