Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah has missed the early stages of the 2025 IPL due to an injury. However, reports suggests that he has now joined the Mumbai Indians camp.

How long was Jasprit Bumrah out of action?

After bearing unusual workload on the 2024/25 tour of Australia, Bumrah had left the ground with an injury during the Australian first innings of the fifth Test, at Sydney, and did not return for the second innings. Amidst speculations of a comeback, he then missed the five T20Is and three ODIs against England at home, and the Champions Trophy in its entirety.

There was still no update on Bumrah ahead of the 2025 IPL. “He is still at the NCA and being monitored on a day-to-day basis,” told Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene at the pre-season press conference. “He is recovering and is in good spirits, hopefully he can join the team sooner.”

Bumrah had missed MI’s first three games of the season, and was set to miss the next two. However, MI captain Hardik Pandya assured (“he will be back soon”) when asked about Bumrah at the toss for the fourth game of the season, against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

IPL 2025: Is Bumrah back with MI?

An ESPNCricinfo report has now mentioned that Bumrah has “linked up with the squad”. He joined the MI unit on Saturday (April 5) “after getting clearance from the BCCI’s medical staff at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru,” where he had been undergoing rehabilitation. Bumrah will now “coordinate with the MI support staff” for his comeback schedule.

On Sunday (April 6), MI released a video celebrating Bumrah’s comeback.

Will Bumrah play vs RCB?

There is no official word from the Mumbai Indians on his availability yet. The ESPNcricinfo report also suggests that it is not clear whether Bumrah is available to play MI's next game, against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on February 7.

It will also be interesting to see how MI manage his workload over the course of the season. India will play a five-match Test series in England from June 28, and will want Bumrah fit and raring for that.

MI confirm Bumrah’s availability for match against RCB

Jasprit Bumrah is available for the Mumbai Indians’ match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday, confirmed head coach Mahela Jayawardene.

"He's available, he's training today, and should be available [for the RCB game]," revealed Jayawardene. "He arrived last night, he had his sessions with NCA [National Cricket Academy, now Centre of Excellence] to finalise that, he's been handed over to our physios. He's bowling today, so all good.

"Boom's coming back from a pretty decent layoff, so we need to give him that space," Jayawardene said. "Not expect too much. Knowing Jasprit he will be up for it. We're very happy to have him in the camp, the experience he brings, that extra voice out there in the middle, chatting with Boulty [Trent Boult], chatting with Deepak [Chahar] or any other younger bowler, giving that advice is also very valuable for us. That's what we're looking forward to from him."
