Lucknow Super Giants gave a debut to Himmat Singh in their IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans on Saturday (April 12) in Lucknow.
Himmat has replaced Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who is unavailable due to his daughter’s illness, as confirmed by LSG captain Rishabh Pant.
Who is Himmat Singh?
Born on November 8, 1996, Himmat hails from Delhi and is a right-handed batter who occasionally bowls off-spin. After representing Delhi in age-group cricket, he progressed to senior domestic cricket across all formats.
Himmat began his senior career with a List A debut in the 2015–16 season, followed by a first-class debut in 2017. His highest score of 194 against Uttarakhand in January 2024 highlights his red-ball temperament. In T20s, he has shown glimpses of his potential, amassing 900-plus runs at a strike rate of 130-plus, including a top score of 77 against Uttar Pradesh. With 40 sixes in the format, he has proven his ability to clear the boundary with ease.
His highest List A score of 132 not out came against Chandigarh in December 2023 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Himmat batted for 100 balls hitting 10 fours and six sixes to take Delhi to 279-4. He came in when his team was teetering at 80-4 and stitched an unbeaten 199-run stand with Lakshay Kumar Thareja (66 not out). Delhi eventually won that match by 69 runs.
Himmat and Pant - U19 cricket to IPL
Himmat and Pant were Under-19 teammates during their formative years, featuring together in various age-level tournaments like the Cooch Behar Trophy, Late Shri JY Lele All India U19 One Day Invitational tournament, and Vinoo Mankad Trophy between 2013 and 2015. The duo also played for India Green in the 2015–16 U19 Challenger Trophy final, where Himmat scored a 62-ball 71 in a narrow 25-run defeat while chasing India Blue’s 282.

A Delhi Premier League winning captain
Himmat Singh captained the East Delhi Riders to the title in the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) last year. Leading from the front, he scored 381 runs in 10 innings, finishing as the tournament’s third-highest run-scorer behind Priyansh Arya and Ayush Badoni.
Arya, who famously smashed six sixes in an over during the tournament, had earlier set a record for the fastest IPL century by an uncapped player (39 balls).
Himmat’s IPL journey began when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) picked him in 2019, though he didn’t get a game. In the 2025 mega-auction, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured him at his base price of INR 30 lakh, marking a fresh opportunity.
