Punjab Kings will enter the auction with the largest purse, of INR 110.5 crore rupees after retaining just two players. The two marquee sets, right at the start of the auction, are expected to catch the eye during the auction, with several international stars present. The twelve players in these sets are Jos Buttler, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, Mitchell Starc, Yuzvendra Chahal, Liam Livingstone, David Miller, KL Rahul, Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj.

The auction also presents a chance for several young players to follow up strong performances in domestic cricket by securing their first contract in the league.
