All ten IPL franchises submitted their list of retained cricketers by the deadline, 5 PM IST on October 31. Here is the full list of retained players for every team for IPL 2025.
For the 2025-27 cycle of the IPL, every franchise can retain up to six players from their existing squad. They can retain these players before the auction, where every team will enter with a budget of INR 120 crore. Alternately, they can use the right-to-match (RTM) option at the auction to reclaim the cricketer.
The sum of pre-auction retentions and RTM cannot exceed six. Of these six, at most five can be capped and at most two uncapped, but there is no restriction on the number of overseas players that can be retained.
Capped Indian players will become uncapped “if they haven’t played international cricket or held a BCCI contract in the last five years”. In other words, MS Dhoni, Sandeep Sharma, and Mohit Sharma will attain “uncapped” status under the new definition.
