The 2025 IPL retention announcement will take place on Thursday (October 31). Here are the details about where you can watch the event live, including TV channels and live streaming platforms.
What are the new player retention rules for IPL 2025?
The IPL government body amended the retention rules this year, with teams now able to keep six of their existing players. A maximum of five capped and two uncapped players can be retained. Another notable clause allows a player to be kept as an uncapped one if they haven’t played international cricket for the last five years. That means someone like MS Dhoni, who is 43 years old and retired from international cricket in 2020, can now be easily retained by Chennai Super Kings without burning a hole in their pocket.
In addition to these, the purse for each team in the auction has been increased to INR 120 crore per team, a 20 per cent rise from the previous auction.
