Sunrisers Hyderabad are second from last in the IPL 2025 points table: can they still qualify from here?
SRH had begun IPL 2025 with a win against Rajasthan Royals before losing four games in a row. They then beat Punjab Kings, but lost to the Mumbai Indians, away and at home. With four points from eight games, they are now ninth out of ten teams, tied on points with RR and Chennai Super Kings.
The three teams are some distance away from, for example, Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals, who have won six of the eight matches.

What do SRH need to qualify?
Six wins in six games will take SRH to 16 points. While it is mathematically possible for a team to get 16 points and still finish outside the top four, it has not happened in the IPL (other than in 2012 and 2013, when each team played 16 games and not 14).
But what if SRH win five out of six? Deccan Chargers (2009), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2010, 2020, 2024), CSK (2014), RR (2018), and the Kolkata Knight Riders (2021) had all qualified with 14 points. Additionally, CSK in 2010 and SRH themselves in 2020 had finished third with 14 points.
What if SRH win four out of six? They may take some hope from the 2019 edition, when they had made it despite having scored only 12 points. In this low-probability event, they will require significant help from other games.
If they win three or fewer games from here, however, SRH’s chances will virtually disappear.
