Sunrisers Hyderabad won their third game of the IPL 2025, defeating Chennai Super Kings by five wickets. Here's the updated points table.
The Chepauk fortress continues to be breached, as SRH registered their first win at the venue in history. After losing to RCB for the first time since 2008 and going down to Delhi Capitals after 15 years at the venue, CSK lost to SRH on Friday, after failing to defend 154 runs.
Batting first, CSK’s troubles continued at the top of the order as Shaik Rasheed was dismissed on the first ball of the game. CSK lost regular wickets and were 74-4 after 9.3 overs before Dewald Brevis brought some momentum into the innings. An injury replacement, Brevis, who was playing his first game of the season, was batting on a run-a-ball 17 at one stage before ending on 42 off 25.
However, there were no other significant contributions as CSK were bowled out for 154 with a ball to spare.
SRH too had a similar start, as Abhishek Sharma departed for a duck on the second ball of the innings, but solid contributions from Ishan Kishan (44 in 34) and then Kamindu Mendis (32* in 22) helped them overhaul the target with eight balls to spare.
It was CSK’s seventh defeat in eight games, as they face an early elimination from the tournament. While not mathematically ruled out yet, they face an uphill task as they aim to qualify for the playoffs. SRH, meanwhile, registered their third win of the tournament, and are now placed eighth with five games in hand.
