Royal Challengers Bengaluru overcame Kolkata Knight Riders with ease in the IPL 2025 opener. Here's what the points table looks like after that result.
In the first match of the 2025 season, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced off at the Eden Gardens. RCB skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and elected to field first. His decision was rewarded almost instantly as Josh Hazlewood got rid of Quinton de Kock in the very first over.

KKR's new captain Ajinkya Rahane then came to the crease, and put on 103 for the second wicket with Sunil Narine before the latter departed for a quick 44. Rahane went three balls later for 56, and the innings then began to collapse. Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh and Andre Russell combined for just 22 runs as KKR eventually limped to 174-8, courtesy of Angkrish Raghuvanshi's 30 off 22 balls.
RCB openers Phil Salt and Virat Kohli then set the tone for the chase with a 12-run first over. They made it to 17 off 2, before back-to-back overs of 20-plus runs helped launch them to 80-0 by the end of six overs. By the time Salt was dismissed for 56, it was 95-1 in 8.3 overs. Kohli eventually saw his side over the line with an unbeaten 59, with contributions from Rajat Patidar (34 off 16) and Liam Livingstone (15* off 5) helping seal the deal.
