Mahela Jayawardene becomes MI head coach

Ricky Ponting to join PBKS as head coach

According to a report from ESPNCricinfo, former Australian captain Ponting has been appointed head coach of the Punjab Kings from IPL 2025, on a multi-year contract. Earlier this year, Ponting had parted ways with Delhi Capitals after seven years at the franchise.

There is no news yet on which current members of the coaching staff will be retained. Last season, Trevor Bayliss (head coach), Sanjay Bangar (head of cricket development), Charl Langeveldt (fast-bowling coach) and Sunil Joshi (spin-bowling coach) formed the core of that group.

Most recently, Ponting was in charge of the Washington Freedom as they won Major League Cricket.

Rahul Dravid confirmed as Rajasthan Royals head coach

I'd love to coach again in the IPL: Ponting

Ricky Ponting has expressed his interest in taking up coaching opportunities in the IPL after he parted ways with Delhi Capitals last month. The former Australia captain served as the Capitals’ head coach between 2018 and 2024. He also acknowledged that the lack of a title led to his exit.

"I'd love to coach again in the IPL. I've had a great time every year that I've been involved, whether that was in the early days as a player or the couple of years I had at Mumbai as head coach there. And then I've had seven seasons at Delhi, which unfortunately didn't really work out. I think me going there was all about trying to bring some silverware to the team and that didn't happen," Ponting said in the latest episode of the ICC Review.

Ponting added: "They made it pretty clear that they wanted to head in a different direction with someone that could give them a bit more time and a bit more availability through the off-season, really more than anything to be able to spend a bit more time in India with a lot of the local players. I just couldn't do that with the other stuff that I've got going on. I think what you'll find is that they'll probably end up with an Indian-based head coach."

"I wish them all the very best but as I said there could be a few opportunities for me popping up in the next couple of months and I'd love to be back coaching in the IPL again next season," he concluded.

Dravid could re-link with Rajasthan Royals as head coach – Report

Rahul Dravid is reportedly the top contender to replace Rajasthan Royals’ director of cricket, Kumar Sangakkara.

Dravid’s last coaching tenure was with the India men’s team, which ended on a high with a much-desired T20 World Cup trophy. According to a Cricbuzz report, Dravid is the favourite to take over in the role of head coach from Sangakkara, whom England are reportedly willing to appoint as their men’s white-ball coach after Matthew Mott’s departure.

The former India coach and captain served as the franchise's mentor towards the end of his career in 2014 and later joined their coaching staff before becoming the national team's coach.
