Interestingly, Mujeeb was ruled out of the 2024 IPL season after being picked by Kolkata Knight Riders in the auction. He was replaced by Ghazanfar, who couldn’t make his IPL debut with the likes of Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, and Suyash Sharma hogging the limelight in the KKR camp last season.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman makes a return to the IPL
In the IPL 2025 mega auction, Mumbai had splashed INR 4.8 Crores on Ghazanfar. Ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, however, Ghazanfar fractured his spinal cord and has been ruled out of cricketing action for at least four months.
To replace him, MI snapped up Mujeeb, a regular on the T20 franchise circuit across the world. He recently helped Paarl Royals qualify for the SA20 playoffs but they fell short of the trophy in the knockouts.
Mujeeb was picked up by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2018 Auction, shortly after making his international debut for Afghanistan in December 2017 and impressed all by picking 14 wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of under 7.
While his next two IPL seasons weren’t fruitful, Mujeeb was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2021 Auction, where he was overshadowed by Rashid Khan, yet another Afghan spinner. SRH later released Mujeeb, and he has been overlooked by franchises since then until now.

Now 23, Mujeeb has scalped 275 wickets in 256 T20s at an economy rate of 6.75 for various franchises around the world. He has proven to be a success for multiple franchises across the world like Northern Superchargers, Melbourne Renegades, Peshawar Zalmi, Gulf Giants, Galle Marvels, and Paarl Royals.
