All ten IPL franchises unveiled their release lists today (October 31) – here is the purse left for each team ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
What's the maximum purse available for each IPL 2025 team?
The auction purse for each side was set at INR 120, a 20 per cent rise from the previous edition. As per the new rules, teams were allowed to retain six players, including a maximum of five capped and uncapped cricketers.
The IPL governing body also listed a minimum deduction amount from the team's purse for each player, with INR 18 crore set for the first player, INR 14 crore for the second, INR 11 crore for the third, INR 18 crore for the fourth, INR 14 crore for the fifth and INR 4 crore for an uncapped player.
Who are some big names released and retained?
The franchises were required to submit the list of retention by 5:00 pm IST on October 15. There were several high-profile releases ahead of the mega auction this year, among which Rishabh Pant is perhaps the notable one. The departure of Pant, who has been an integral part of the side since 2016, means Delhi need to look for a new captain.
Of other big names, defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders also let go of their captain Shreyas Iyer, along with Mitchell Starc. KL Rahul has also been released by Lucknow Super Giants.
MS Dhoni, who has been part of record five-time title-holders, Chennai Super Kings, has been retained by the franchise as an uncapped player after the latest retention rules came into effect.
