There were several highlights from the first day of the auction, led by Shreyas Iyer, and then Rishabh Pant, breaking the all-time record as the most expensive IPL auction buys. Venkatesh Iyer, too, broke past the INR 20 Cr mark, with Arshdeep Singh enjoying a right-to-match for INR 18 Cr from Punjab Kings.
However, some familiar names did not find a place in any of the ten teams. It includes IPL-winning captain David Warner, along with ODI World Cup winner Jonny Bairstow and India Test batter Devdutt Padikkal. All three were slotted in the INR 2 Cr base price bracket.
Piyush Chawla, the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL history, also did not find any buyers. The action will resume on Monday, with 66 sets of players still left to be completed.
After initially not appearing on the list for the player auction, Jofra Archer has been signed for approximately £1.18m! 🤝
