IPL uncapped players

As with every season, it is very likely that, across the 2025 edition of the IPL, some uncapped cricketers are set to soar into stardom. Here are five likely candidates.

For this list, we shall consider cricketers who are uncapped not only at international level but even in the IPL. The list will, thus, not include cricketers like MS Dhoni, Sandeep Sharma, Mohit Sharma, and Karun Nair, who qualify as uncapped under the IPL’s new criterion.

Robin Minz (Mumbai Indians)

The world was Minz’s oyster when he was picked by the Gujarat Titans for the 2024 IPL, but an unfortunate road accident postponed his dreams by a year. This time, Mumbai Indians picked him up for INR 65 lakh, more than twice his base price of INR 30 lakh. A power hitter from Jharkhand – he strikes at 181 in T20 cricket – 22-year-old Minz keeps wicket as well.

Suryansh Shedge (Punjab Kings)

Shedge’s big moment came in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final. Chasing 175 against Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai slumped to 129-5 when Shedge stepped out and blasted 36 not out in 15 balls with three fours and three sixes to go with Venkatesh Iyer’s wicket earlier in the match. This ended a tournament where – the first of his career – he hit 131 runs at a strike rate of 252 (no typo there) along with eight wickets. Punjab might have hit the jackpot.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi (Rajasthan Royals)

Only 13, Suryavanshi has already hit the headlines with a 58-ball 100 against the Australia Under-19s, explosive batting at the Under-19 Asia Cup, and a ferocious onslaught against Mukesh Kumar in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. As Rajasthan are likely to play an Indian-heavy batting line-up, Suryavanshi may soon become the first cricketer younger than the IPL to play in the IPL.

C Andre Siddarth (Chennai Super Kings)

The nephew of Tamil Nadu stalwart S Sharath, Andre Siddharth is only 18, and – despite having played in the Tamil Nadu Premier League – is yet to play any match with T20 status. However, a superb Ranji Trophy where he reached 35 in each of his first eight innings (612 runs at 68.00) made his talent amply clear.

Bevon Jacobs (Mumbai Indians)

The only overseas cricketer on this list, the Pretoria-born Jacobs has played for Auckland and Canterbury, and made it to the Mumbai squad for the 2025 IPL after only six T20 games – presumably because his strike rate stood at 189 at that point. That number has somewhat reverted to the mean after 20 games, but 148 is still an impressive strike rate to have.
