Harshit Rana is likely to be retained by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as an uncapped player as we approach the deadline day for franchises to submit their retention list ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction.
Rana made waves in the IPL 2024 for his fiery attitude, intent and wicket-taking ability, taking 19 scalps in 13 matches to finish as the second highest wicket-taker in the competition for champions Kolkata Knight Riders. He recently earned his maiden Test call-up for the India tour of Australia after a series of impressive performances in the domestic circuit.

In 10 first-class games, Rana has taken 43 wickets at an average of 24.00 and a strike rate of 36 with best match figures of 10/108. He also has a respectable batting record of scoring 469 runs at an average of 42.63 with a century and two half-centuries. He was with the Indian Test side for the New Zealand series as a net bowler in Bengaluru and Pune, before he was released to play a Ranji Trophy game against Assam.
How flu prevented Rana from getting India cap
Rana was in the India squad for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh which took place earlier in the month. It was rumoured that he was set to play in the final game of the series in Hyderabad. However, the team management confirmed on the day that Rana would be unavailable for the match due to a viral infection.
Rana was subsequently not named in India's playing XI for the first two Tests against New Zealand, meaning that that he would remain uncapped until at least November 1, one day after the October 31 deadline for the IPL teams to provide their retention list. This allows KKR to retain him for a far lesser price of INR 4 crore, as opposed to at least INR 11 crore for a capped player.
After the 22-year-old’s game against Assam, he was recalled to join the Indian camp as a net bowler and also prepare with the team ahead of the Australia tour in November.
